The cuttings create a backdrop of the Arctic Archipelago, through which the viewer sees panoramic images reflected back. Much as to the survey the Arctic is to document second-hand—to measure the ripples rather than the rock, to grab on faith at innumerable probabilities in time — we see here the landscape already retreating from view, even as we try to grasp its fragile, fleeting beauty.
